Our club encourages kids to learn about STEM and gives guidance, teaches and promotes the subject throughout KatyISD and beyond. For quite some time know, our VEX team has been helping another team in Australia through the Onslow program. They have been mentoring the team in many different aspects of robotics from building to programming. It doesn't matter where we are in the world, our team is surely prepared to help another when given the opportunity.
After a summer break, the school year has begun and the Seven Lakes Robotics Club has gained numerous members. Following the first meeting with new members, the plan for the first semester has been laid out. Safety training is to occur every Thursday and Saturday through signups, which should then be followed by training for various aspects of building robots. Of course one can not forget the Outreach events to occur throughout the year. Don't forget you safety glasses and have fun around the club! New members are required to show the ability to work two of our machines in order to complete their safety training.
Most of you all who are joining us in the 2017-2018 school year, welcome to the team! Whether you are an incoming freshmen looking for some clubs, sophomore, or upperclassman, know that the Seven Lakes Robotics Team is glad that you have decided to join us. At first, it may seem like a lot, but over time you will learn to love it here and help out the team anyway you are able. Maybe you'll choose to help out on the Build team with the programming, CAD, electrical, or mechanical teams, know that mentors and other students are willing to help. Alternatively, anyone is welcome to help out with any Outreach activities that occur throughout the year. Good luck, and have fun!

Please return all paperwork to Bay 4 at the Robert Shaw Center during our regular meetings. See Calendar for our meeting hours. NOTICE: For new information on current events please check the News section for more detailed information. In collaboration with iEducate USA, the Seven Lakes High School Robotics club is seeking to build an innovative, inspirational, and sustainable program to inspire hundreds of kids to pursue a rigorous STEM education. The main objective is to spark a love of science in young kids from backgrounds typically economically and ethnically underrepresented in STEM fields. The curriculum includes:
The Workshops allow the kids to be exposed to experiential learning of engineering concepts in an interactive, self-paced, goal-oriented format. The kids learn from older kids to foster role model relationships. We have been at the following Elementary Schools around the Houston area between June 5th and June 22nd this year:

Saturday, May 13th, a group of girl scouts came to the Robert Shaw Center and had the opportunity to do some fun science experiments. From a balloon and static electricity to the creation of "dinosaur snot," the girls scouts learned a lot. It all ended with a demonstration of the robots built the last two years, which was, without a doubt, the best part. later that day. See pictures here.
Wednesday evening, our Robotics team left for San Antonio to compete. Today (Saturday) was the real competition, as well as alliance selection day, but the days before were left for the Drive Team to
practice and the rest of the team to prepare. On the day of competition, the Fourth Alliance Captain, Team 4734, selected us, Team 4639, and Team 3335 to be partners throughout the competition. Our alliance made it all the way to the quarterfinals, two matches were played and our team lost the first, but came back in the second. In the tiebreaker match, our alliance put all their effort forward hoping to come out victorious, but unfortunately lost despite their hard work. Either way, our team was outstanding, they kept our robot functioning for the Drive Team to compete, but it wouldn't have been possible with our alliance with Teams 4734 and 3335. Great job teams! See pictures here. On March 17 and 18, the Robospartans competed at the Lonestar Central competitions, one of the first after the build season had ended. After placing 14th of of the 41 teams competing, our team moved to the quarter finals as the 8th seeded Alliance captains. From here, the team chose Shade Tree Robotics and The Mayde Creek RoboRams, Team number's 3999 and 6488 respectively, as our alliance partners. Soon, our alliance went on to compete against one of the top seeded alliances in the quarter finals. After two consecutive losses, our alliance was sadly eliminated from the competition. Even after a loss, the overall competition ended with the team in a good standing, and with Alamo coming up soon, we hope to improve our standings. The drive team did an outstanding job competing and will continue to do better as they will be practicing as much as possible.
It has been over a month since the build season started, and despite all the challenges, the team pulled through to create a one of a kind robot. By the time most people read this update, the build season will be almost or already finished, if not, improvements are without a doubt a priority. Either way, the builders of the Seven Lakes High School Robotics Club, best known as the RoboSpartans, will start the hike on the long road to State, National, and possibly more competitions. As of now, it's time to fire up the practice robot and prepare for the games ahead. It won't be long until updates on competitions appear here, until then, it's time to practice.
For the last two weeks, a lot of programming and tweaking have been done to some designs to the robot, but that's normal, after all, all things could use some improvement. In other words, Rockwell Automation came by the Robert Shaw Center and talked to our team about many things. Rockwell Automation got a little demonstration of what we had, and after gave some tips as if they were our mentors. Overall, good progress is being made and the team is as great as can be, there still is another week ahead, so, it's back to work.
It has been quite a while since the First Robotics Competition had the Kickoff and parts of the robot are being built for practice and competition. Most prototyping has started to wind down and building of these parts has recently begun. Like they do every day, programmers and the build team continue to work effortlessly in getting the 2017 competition robot built, working, and functioning to the best of their abilities. Build season ends in about a month and there is no doubt that our Spartans of Team 4639 are going to succeed no matter the hardships that comes in our way.
